How age is calculated
Age calculation seems simple — just subtract the birth date from the current date — but the details are more complex than they appear. A correct age calculation must account for variable month lengths (28 to 31 days), leap years (February 29), and the fact that age is not simply the number of days divided by 365. For example, a person born on March 15, 1990 is exactly 36 years old on March 15, 2026 — not on March 14 or March 16.

Why does the total days count not match years × 365?

What time zone is used?
Dates are interpreted in your browser's local time zone at midnight. For most personal use this is correct and matches what you would expect from a calendar. However, for legal or official age calculations (such as determining the exact age of majority in a jurisdiction), you should always confirm with the relevant authority, as time zone differences could theoretically shift the result by a day in edge cases.
