Why convert images to PDF?

Converting images to PDF is useful when you need to share multiple images as a single, organized document. PDF is universally accepted by email systems, government portals, online forms, and printing services — many of which have strict limits on the number and type of individual image files they accept. By combining your JPG and PNG images into a single PDF, you simplify sharing, ensure consistent page layout, and make it easy for recipients to scroll through all images in order.

PDF also preserves image quality better than many other sharing methods. When you embed an image into a PDF, the original pixel data is preserved without re-compression (unlike some online galleries that downscale images). This makes PDF an ideal format for submitting scanned documents, creating photo portfolios, and archiving visual records.

Choosing the right page size and orientation

A4 (210 × 297 mm) is the standard paper size in most countries outside North America. Letter (8.5 × 11 inches) is the standard in the US and Canada. Legal (8.5 × 14 inches) is used for legal documents in the US. If you are submitting documents to a specific organization, check their requirements before choosing a page size.

For landscape photos (wider than tall), choose Landscape orientation to maximize page coverage. For portrait photos (taller than wide), choose Portrait. If your images have mixed orientations, Portrait is a safe default — landscape images will be centered on the page with whitespace on the sides.

Margin tips

Use No Margins when you want images to fill the entire page edge-to-edge (e.g., for full-page photo albums). Use Small or Medium margins when the PDF will be printed, as most printers cannot print to the edge of the page. Use Large margins when the document will be bound or hole-punched.

Are my images uploaded to your servers?

No. Your privacy is our top priority. The entire conversion process happens locally in your web browser using JavaScript and the pdf-lib library. Your images never leave your computer, ensuring they remain 100% private. You can verify this by opening your browser's DevTools Network tab — no upload requests are made during conversion. This makes the tool safe for confidential documents, medical scans, ID cards, and proprietary design files.

Can I reorder the images before creating the PDF?

Yes! After uploading your images, you can simply drag and drop them in the list to arrange them into your desired order. Each image will become a separate page in the final PDF. The order you see in the interface is exactly the order pages will appear in the output document. You can also remove individual images from the queue by clicking the remove button.

Will the images lose quality?

No. Our tool embeds the images into the PDF without re-compressing them, which helps to preserve the original quality. The images are placed at their native resolution on each page. The final PDF will render your images clearly and sharply. If your source images are very large (e.g., 10+ MB photos), the resulting PDF will also be large — consider compressing your images first with our Image Compressor if file size is a concern.

What image formats are supported?

The tool supports JPG (JPEG), PNG, and WebP images. These are the most common formats for photos, screenshots, and graphics. GIF and BMP files are not currently supported. If you have a GIF, convert it to PNG first. If you have a TIFF or HEIC file (common on iPhone), convert it to JPG using your device's photo app or an image converter before uploading.

Can I choose the page size and orientation?

Yes. You can select from A4, Letter, or Legal page sizes, and choose between Portrait and Landscape orientation. You can also set margin size (None, Small, Medium, Large). A4 is the standard page size in most countries outside the US; Letter is the standard in the US and Canada. If your images are wider than tall, Landscape orientation will use the page space more efficiently.

Is there a limit on the number of images I can convert?

There is no artificial limit. The practical limit is your device's available memory. On a typical modern laptop, you can comfortably convert 50-100 images in a single session. On mobile devices, the limit is lower due to memory constraints — 20-30 images is a comfortable batch size. For very large batches, consider splitting into multiple PDFs and then merging them with our PDF Merger.

Can I add a password to the PDF?

Not currently. The Image to PDF tool creates a standard, unprotected PDF. If you need to password-protect the output, use a desktop tool like Adobe Acrobat or a command-line tool like qpdf after downloading the file. We are considering adding password protection in a future release.

Does the tool work on mobile devices?

Yes. The tool is fully responsive and works on iOS Safari, Android Chrome, and other modern mobile browsers. On mobile, you can pick images from your photo library, camera, or cloud storage apps (iCloud Drive, Google Drive, Dropbox). The conversion runs locally on your phone, so speed depends on your device's processor.

Can I use this for commercial projects?
