An EXIF editor views, edits, and removes EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format) metadata embedded in JPEG and TIFF photos. EXIF data includes camera settings (ISO, aperture, shutter speed), GPS location, timestamp, device model, and software used. This tool reads and modifies EXIF data locally in your browser using the piexif.js library -- no photos are uploaded, protecting your location privacy.

Entendendo metadados EXIF

What EXIF data reveals about you

Every photo taken with a digital camera or smartphone contains EXIF metadata -- invisible data embedded in the image file that describes how, when, and where the photo was taken. This includes the camera or phone model, lens specifications, exposure settings (ISO, aperture, shutter speed, focal length), the exact date and time the photo was captured, and potentially GPS coordinates precise to within a few meters. When you share photos online without stripping EXIF data, you're sharing all this information with anyone who downloads the image.

GPS data in EXIF is a particular privacy concern. If your phone's location services are enabled when you take a photo, the GPS coordinates are embedded in the EXIF data. Sharing that photo online reveals exactly where it was taken -- your home, workplace, or child's school. Social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter automatically strip EXIF data on upload, but many other platforms (forums, blogs, email attachments) do not. Always strip EXIF data before sharing photos on platforms that don't do it automatically.

EXIF data also includes thumbnail images (sometimes multiple), copyright notices, and software identification. Professional photographers use EXIF to embed copyright information and contact details in their images. However, the same data can be used to identify what camera and editing software was used, potentially revealing workflow details. The piexif.js library can read, modify, and write EXIF data in JPEG files without re-encoding the image, preserving full image quality.

When to keep vs. remove EXIF data

Keep EXIF data when: storing original photos in your personal archive (the metadata is valuable for organizing and searching), submitting photos to stock agencies (they require EXIF data for verification), or sharing photos with other photographers for technical discussion. Remove EXIF data when: sharing photos publicly online (privacy), emailing photos to strangers, uploading to forums or classifieds, or sharing photos of children or sensitive locations.

Our tool lets you selectively remove specific EXIF fields rather than stripping all metadata at once. You might want to keep the camera settings (for photography discussions) while removing GPS data (for privacy). You can also edit EXIF fields -- for example, correcting an incorrect timestamp or adding a copyright notice. The tool preserves the image quality because it modifies only the EXIF segment of the JPEG file, not the image data itself.

Server-based EXIF tools require uploading your photos -- ironic, since the goal is often to protect privacy. Our tool reads and modifies EXIF data entirely in your browser using piexif.js, without re-encoding the image.

Perguntas frequentes

Remover metadados reduz a qualidade?
Não. Nossa ferramenta cria uma nova cópia da imagem sem os metadados, mantendo a qualidade visual.
Quais arquivos são suportados?
JPEG, PNG, WebP e HEIC/HEIF.
What is the difference between EXIF, IPTC, and XMP metadata?
EXIF is technical metadata captured by the camera (settings, GPS, timestamp). IPTC is editorial metadata added by photographers or software (copyright notices, keywords, captions, contact information). XMP is Adobe's extensible metadata format that can contain both technical and editorial information, as well as custom fields defined by software. Our tool removes all three types — EXIF, IPTC, and XMP — to ensure complete privacy. This is important because some social media platforms only strip EXIF but preserve IPTC and XMP, which can still reveal information about the photo's origin and copyright holder.
Posso ver os metadados antes de removê-los?
Sim. Quando você envia uma imagem, a ferramenta exibe imediatamente todos os metadados incorporados em um formato estruturado e legível. You can see camera settings (make, model, lens, aperture, shutter speed, ISO, focal length), date and time information (original date, digitized date, modification date), GPS coordinates (with a link to view the location on a map), image properties (dimensions, color space, orientation), and any IPTC/XMP fields. This lets you understand exactly what information is embedded in your photo before deciding whether to remove it. Some fields may be more sensitive than others — for example, GPS coordinates are usually the biggest privacy concern.
Do social media platforms remove EXIF automatically?
Most major social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter/X, WhatsApp) automatically strip EXIF metadata from uploaded photos for privacy reasons. However, this is not guaranteed — some platforms may preserve certain fields, and platform policies can change. Additionally, many forums, marketplaces (eBay, Craigslist), dating apps, and messaging services (email, Slack, Discord) do NO T strip EXIF data, meaning your photos' metadata may be accessible to anyone who downloads them. To be safe, always strip EXIF data yourself before sharing photos, especially on platforms where you are not certain of their metadata handling policies.
Meus dados de imagem são enviados para um servidor?
No. All EXIF parsing and stripping happens entirely in your browser using a client-side JavaScript library (exifr/piexif). Your image files are loaded directly into the browser's memory, parsed for metadata, and re-saved without the metadata — all without any network requests. The tool does not upload, store, or transmit your images. When you close the browser tab, all image data and metadata are cleared from memory immediately. This makes the tool safe to use for sensitive photos, confidential business documents, medical images, or any scenario where image data should not be exposed to third-party servers.
